How we operate

To achieve its mission, ECES operates according to an annual work program. This program is endorsed by the Center's Board of Directors. It is designed to provide fresh answers to pertinent questions concerning the Egyptian economy. A degree of flexibility is maintained to enable the Center to respond to unforeseen events during the year. Research is conducted in-house by ECES staff, but large-scale activities are usually carried out in collaboration with local and international experts.

The issues addressed by ECES are varied in nature. Their selection is driven by the challenges facing the Egyptian economy and the need for fresh ideas to address them. In recent years, ECES dealt with industrial policy, fiscal sustainability, subsidy policy reform, private sector development, corporate governance, monetary policy, regional integration, tax system reform, the informal sector, financial sector development, issues of poverty reduction and income redistribution, health sector reform, Egypt's energy security, and productivity.

ECES disseminates its research widely through the organization of conferences, seminars, lectures and roundtable discussions. The objective of these events is to provide a forum for constructive discussions among policymakers, the private sector, academia and the media. In addition, the Center produces a variety of publications and maintains a regularly updated website (www.eces.org.eg).
