Proposals for Promoting Exports in Egypt

Promoting exports is one of the most important economic policy objectives in Egypt due to its essential role in increasing domestic production and employment, generating much-needed foreign currency and improving the balance of payments. In this context, the study explores reasons behind lackluster export performance in Egypt, citing two sets of obstacles.The first relates to barriers that prevent the utilization of existing capacity, while the second deals with factors that prevent increasing the export capacity. In light of this analysis, the study puts forth two sets of policies that aim at increasing the quality and quantity of exports in Egypt.
